Why I’m Running 26.2 Miles for the working Equines (donkey, horses and mules)
Franklin Ogwankwa
My Story
Most people see a marathon as a personal challenge. But for many women in the arid and semi-arid lands of East Africa, "marathon" distances are a daily reality not for sport, but for survival.
I am fundraising for Brooke Action for Working Horses and Donkeys because, in Kenya and most parts of world where donkeys are used, it is a critical household engine. They are the silent partners in our development, ferrying water over long distances, transporting goods to market and freeing women and children especially girls from hours of back-breaking labor.
Tragically, these animals are under threat from the global donkey skin trade, which devastates the livelihoods of the families who depend on them most. By supporting my run, you aren’t just helping an animal; you are protecting a family’s income, a woman’s time, and a child’s education.
Every donation helps Brooke provide life-saving veterinary care and advocacy to keep these "invisible workers" healthy and protected.
